Jessica Lynch was just 19 when the world first saw her a broken, blond soldier caught on combat video in Iraq, her face wearing something between a grimace and a grin.
The Army supply clerk was being carried on a stretcher after nine days as a prisoner of war. She had been captured along with five others after the 507th Maintenance Company took a wrong turn and came under attack in Nasiriyah on March 23, 2003. Eleven of her fellow soldiers died.
Lynch had joined the Army at 18 to earn money for college and become a school teacher. This Friday, at 28, she completes that mission.

The exaggeration wasn't intended to rally 'support for the war'. The exaggerators were a specific group within the Pentagon and their agenda much narrower than that.
The crux of the matter is that she was wounded and a prisoner whom we were able to rescue because of a good Iraqi citizen. We did a good job. The media does their twisting and turning as they see it. Most news reports were titled "Bash Bush".
I thank God everyday that he was President at the time.
The only reason she was injured and captured was because the driver of her Humvee made a wrong turn into a town, then crashed. The driver was killed in the crash, and now there’s a mountain in the middle of Phoenix named after her.

I took a minute and reviwed the many many threads on Jessica Lynch.
She made so many mistakes. The Army also made so many mistakes. Her time in the Army was not a success story.
But it does look like she has overcome those mistakes, and I wish her well in all her future endeavers.
THAT was MY thought....it jammed because she was TRYING to fire it....sheesh.
i have nothing but respect for Lynch. I was responding to a minor inaccuracy in the article.
Was she injured by the enemy while in preformance of her duties? YES
That’s all I need to know and in my opinion Thats enough.
Bingo. Wasn’t exaggerated as some want people to think.

excerpt-
Piestewa Peak is named in honor of Army Spc. Lori Ann Piestewa, the first Native American woman to die in combat in the US military. (Wikipedia citation)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piestewa_Peak
She has disavowed the title of "hero" and is honest about her experiences. The article says she still has problems with her legs from the injuries:
Then, on badly damaged legs and a right foot that still pains her, she'll walk across a stage Friday evening and get her education degree from West Virginia University at Parkersburg. "It's tough to walk, but I look at it as, 'At least I'm walking,'" she says. "At least I have my legs. They may not work. I have no feeling in the left one. But it's attached, at least. ... At least I'm alive."
She is a good person trying and succeeding at rebuilding her life and always supporting the men and women of the US military, at home and overseas.
I call it Squaw Peak.
>>>I call it Squaw Peak.<<<
Same here... just illuminating the fact that Piestawa was the name reassigned to Squaw Peak, not Lynch.
Climbed (walked) the trail up Squaw Peak a number of times (back in the day.)
And a lot of those killed on beaches all over the world never fired there weapons. Anyone that wants to make something of it can kiss it. She got in the vehicle and she went there knowing she could be killed. Hats off to the warrior.
What a pretty picture. Thank you for sharing.
