Iran warns Saudi to reconsider oil pledge

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran on Tuesday warned Saudi Arabia to reconsider its vow to make up for any shortfall in Iranian oil exports under new sanctions, saying Riyadh's pledge to step into the market was unfriendly.

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi issued the warning in remarks carried by state media.

"We invite Saudi officials to further reflect and consider" their offer to compensate for curbed Iranian oil exports, Salehi said.

He attacked comments by Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi that Saudi oil output could be boosted by around 2.6 million barrels per day -- the same amount that Iran exports -- and that the world will not permit Iran to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

"These signals are not friendly signals," Salehi said. "Iran expects all Persian Gulf countries, in particular Saudi Arabia ... to avoid making rash remarks."

He also said that "the security of the Persian Gulf is a collective security and Iran is a major player in this regard."

Iran has already told Saudi Arabia and other oil-producing Arab neighbours that if they step in to compensate for Iranian oil exports cut under looming EU and US sanctions, it "would not consider these actions to be friendly."

Tehran's representative to OPEC, Mohammad Ali Khatibi, was quoted as saying on Sunday that those countries "will be held responsible for what happens" if they did so, adding ominously: "One cannot predict the consequences."

I think about now, with the Iranians ALREADY threatening them BEFORE they have announced their “nuke”, the Bedsheet wearing bandits from Mecca are having second thoughts about backing the Kenyan Muslim for President of the U.S.

Obama is peripheral to the issue and really not important at all.

The announcement is a reminder to the Iranians that the plot to assassinate the Ambassador and the armed invasion of the Holy Places in Mecca are not forgotten

DUH, the Saudi made an agreement about oil with the chinese a few days back, their move is more of self interest than anything.

Duh, their moves have ALWAYS been self-interested and their past support of Muslim Obama was designed to be also.

But they were hoisted by their own petard here.

That is what I am saying.

Ok, the Saudi were not pleased that bush did not take out Iran when he could have. I mean the problem of supply to Afghanistan would have been taken care of if the ninth ID had just driven over there. From Iraq.

I don’t think the Saudis would have uspported McCain even if Bush had taken out Iran.

I think the issue was proselytizing Islam in the U.S. and advancing radical Islam all over the world. In that respect they chose the right guy, Obama, as their candidate. But they probably didn’t realize his anti-colonial ideology would keep him from protecting them.

I don’t know what the creature occupying the White House had for his real name. We DO know he was once Barry Soetero. But he PICKED Barack Hussein Obama as his new name. Muslims are MUCH given to symbolism. Barack was the name of the “Magic” horse that villain Mohammad claimed he rode to Jerusalem. Nuff said.
