Pakistan’s Musharraf on the run after arrest order

Former Pakistani military ruler Pervez Musharraf and his security team pushed past policemen and sped away from a court in the country’s capital on Thursday after his bail was revoked in a case in which he is accused of treason.

Local TV broadcast footage of the dramatic scene in which Musharraf jumped into a black SUV and escaped as a member of his security team hung to the side of the vehicle. He sped away to his large compound on the outskirts of Islamabad that is protected by high walls, razor wire and guard towers.

This week has gone from bad to worse for Musharraf, who seized power in a coup in 1999 when he was serving as army chief and spent nearly a decade in power before being forced to step down in 2008. He returned last month after four years in self-imposed exile to make a political comeback despite legal challenges and Taliban death threats, but has since faced paltry public support.

A court in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Tuesday disqualified Musharraf from running in the parliamentary election scheduled for May 11, likely squashing his hopes for political comeback. …

Another ally (as good as it got) left hung out to dry. US libs/leftists in power did this to the Shah, to Sadat and of late to Mubarak.

We get the leadership we either vote for or the media appoints.

What is the Sauds role in this, if any?

This one is squarely the fault of GWB and Condi Rice...

Bush tells Musharraf to choose ballot box or uniform

Remember when they went on that kick about having elections in Muslim countries and actually believed that Arabs would choose wisely? That's how we ended up with Hamas in control of Gaza.

Rice Admits U.S. Underestimated Hamas Strength

"I've asked why nobody saw it coming," Ms. Rice said, speaking of her own staff. "It does say something about us not having a good enough pulse."

How come everyone “saw it coming” w.r.t. Gaza but they?

How many years before we become a country that has to jail one or more of our 5 presidents? I don’t remember retired presidents or primers doing so well back in the USSR, but everyone of our 5 have played a part in trying to turn the USA into the same kind of monster.

What about all the nukes? Do we have special teams to go in and get them or neutralize them? This isn’t going to end well if the muzzie terrorists get ahold of them.

The wil pakis (the ones in AQ), like the founder of al Fuqra, have tight links to Saudi with family members living there.

This will happen here.

We have the ability to impeach Presidents, but when the system becomes so corrupt as to deny that right to remove from office those who usurp power & authority...treason becomes the order of the day.

How many times have we seen posted even here on FR, that the administration is treading dangerously close to treason. Some might say he is already way over that line, but we are indeed powerless to bring to bear what should be the power of the Congress. When I hear congress critters talk about the President's Agenda, it makes me believe that person needs to be removed from office. They are not there to represent the President's Agenda, they are there to represent We The People.

The more the Congress moves to represent the President, the more America becomes the monster. The treason is not in the White House per say, the treason is in Congress as they continue to do the bidding of the Executive Branch. The power to stop lawlessness in the Executive Branch rests with Congress, in fact it is their responsibility. As such it is my humble observation that Pelosi, Reid and a number of congressional leaders fail to uphold their honest responsibility.

Pelosi, Reid et al check the President? They are all schooled in Soviet thinking; their kind of “republic” is the one where the executive sets the agenda and they dutifully rubber-stamp it. And considering Pelosi’s constituency in particular and what she represents, she is not going to consider the rest of the country or its well-being.

"We get the leadership we either vote for or the media appoints."

You got that right. People get the government they deserve and vice versa, and the American people are paying a heavy price for their indulgence in decadence.

He was a fool to ever set foot in Pakistan again. That country is spinning dangerously out of control with no strong man in charge and soon the army (once again) will be deposing elected leaders. The only way Musharraf gets back in power is if the army is still loyal to him and they appoint him after another coup.

If we lose the House in the next election, this president’s agenda will become the Constitution. If that happens, I can think of two former presidents that might want to watch their backs.

Of course not. Neither do I. And I hope that I am dead wrong about where I foresee Americans' indulgence in decadence leading. I would love to be proven a fool.

No need to restate the obvious/preach to the choir, with all due respect. It’s the deluded libs that need to snap out of it; and at this point, the only way they will is through a violent rude awakening, which will affect everyone in the country.
