Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant is donating $1 million to the Red Cross for tornado relief, Royce Young of Daily Thunder reports.
Moore, Oklahoma which was hardest hit by the storm is about 11 miles south of Oklahoma City.
Durant made ~$17 million in salary this season.
He has been the face of the franchise and the city since the Thunder moved there in 2008. He sticks around town in the offseason, and even played flag football with a couple of local guys during the lockout two years ago.
Solid gesture all around.

Good for him!
Kevin Durant
Class act, Kevin!!!
(oh we wish you were a Sonic in Seattle, but I digress.....)
Kevin Durant please don’t trust the Red Cross.
He should have considered Salvation Army.
Good for him for giving, however I would give the money to the Salvation Army instead of the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross has a bad record of misusing donations going all the way back to World War II.
Class act - he’s a good man...
I heard that Joe Biden gave $50.
Your anti Red Cross post is based on old old rumors that were wrong then and still wrong today.
The Salvation Army lacks the resources and capabilities of the Red Cross.
The local chapeter of the Red Cross where I live took donations for fire victims and spent the money on a new phone system at their corporate office and expensive office furniture. That is a fact.
Kind and generous.
Class act unlike the other scum like Boxer, et al.
And asked for change.
will the red cross spend it there?
Kevin Durant strikes me as a classy person. Besides this very generous gift, you also never hear of Durant getting in trouble and he seems like a very humble, team-oriented player. Good for him.
You heard wrong. He donated some used clothing and claimed $500 as a deduction. It was worth that much because it was once worn by a celebrity comedian ass clown.
Intent is terrific. But after 9/11, when we gave to the Red Cross, only to find that the Red Cross STASHED much of the money for “other emergencies,” I won’t give to the Red Cross again.
bert, in the wake of 9/11 there were many proven stories of how the Red Cross abused the donations given for NYC and 9/11 victims. The director deliberately-—it came out-—held back a great deal of the donations for “other emergencies.” These were not “bad reports.” They were validated.
Believe what you want. The reports did not properly state what happened.
