The man was frightened, but he was also armed. Once you pull the trigger in a situation like this don’t stop pulling it until the gun is empty.

Bad advice, sir. You stop shooting once the attacker no longer presents a threat. As I was advised by an instructor at NRA headquarters, once the man starts falling, stop. Otherwise, you can be charged with second-degree murder.

The NRA man never had a guy shot once get back up and attack him again.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I agree with the first sentence, but I think it gets a little more complicated after that.

Time seems to slow down for a lot of people when in a life and death situation. People can often empty a gun faster than it takes a person to fall down.

Do not shoot a man who no longer can hold a weapon, but realize that people can take a lot of punishment and keep on fighting.

It is pretty common to run a gun dry without even realizing how many shots were fired.

Even the police are trained to put two in the chest, and one in the head.

If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

Also, you don’t want to waste bullets that may be needed for a second or third bad guy.

To be more specific. You stop shooting when the threat is neutralized. A man can fall still clutching a firearm and then kill you with it.

Horse manure. You shoot until the perp is on the ground and CLEARLY no longer a threat. Then you keep your gun trained on him, quickly glance around for accomplices, and kick away any weapons that may be near the perp. I'm not saying you then put a bullet in his head or anything, but you don't just stop shooting when a perp starts to go down. He may be reaching for his ankle piece.

What kind of NRA instructor did you have?
