The only — and I mean only — reason I ever hesitate about a third party is because it likely means several decades of complete Democrat dominance of the country’s politics before the Republicans finally die and a real conservative party is viable.

Yeah. The GOP needs a top to bottom takeover/makeover.

You’re absolutely right....and as you imply, there is no guarantee that any sort of conservative anything would emerge after the dark era such Dem dominance would produce.

If a third party could simply grow large enough that neither could gain a majority without appealing to them, that is a huge win. Republicans have spent the last 20 years laughing at me and giving me the finger.
Maybe if the Dems knew they had to seriously address the concerns of the 3rd party to win an election, it would moderate their runaway crazy mentality that they have now.

Reigning in the radicalism of the dem party is probably as useful to America as GOPs winning office.

The founders never wanted a two party system and thought it was a horrifying idea. Yet, everyone tells us about the majesty of out two party system. Its just two cheeks on the same ass as far as I can see.

I like to use the Bible analogy:

Does Satan not rule over Man before the 2nd coming?

IMHO, maybe it’s time to let the People hurt a bit (being more than 50% happily voted this way); and many more FAIL to vote either way.

No —we need 3rd party—The old Canard of the right that a Third party will make a Democrat Victory (Used to step on the Conservatives) or the old Canard used by the Left that a 3rd Party (on the left) will make for Republican Victories—Remember all the parties were once 3rd Parties of some sort. Look at UKIP in England. No—we need an active Conservative Party Nation wide. Not a place holder but a choice-—The two big parties have moved together until there are few differences. A Third Party would force the GOP to the right. Force them to drop RINOs.
Liberty Party—with the likes of a Sarah Palin could do wonders for the Right. The Tea Party helped the GOP in 2010—until it was targeted by the Left MSM and the Right. That crime alone should force the issue. We have not forgotten. The Dole-McCain-Romney canditates forced on the GOP should be enough (Each of them would be better than Obama-Fraud) The Republican majority have been betrayed just as our brothers in the Democratic Party have been betrayed by the Progressive-Communists of the Left. Unite to toss out the poison that has corrupted the USA.

It only took the Republicans about 6 years to win the presidency in 1860 with Lincoln once they left the Whigs.

Yes, much different now than back then.
