The Persians were well-known astronomers during the first centuries, pre-Mohammed. They did improve the Astrolabe. The astrolabe was used to determine prayer times and to find the direction to Mecca. Muslims claim to have invented it, but it was originally produced in Greece. Muslims produced some beautiful pieces in the 11 and 12th centuries.

If you go to college today, they can tell you how the Muslims saved western civilization from the depredations of the EVIL Crusaders who were hell-bent on destroying every vestige of literacy and science.
