Smog cloud bigger than 40 Beijings suffocates northern China

A 660,000 square kilometer smog cloud has smothered much of northern China, engulfing the national capital as well as 70 other cities in neighbouring Hebei, Henan and Shandong provinces.

Chinese media have said the expanse of air pollution is more than 40 times the size of Beijing itself, which has issued its second-ever red alert over air pollution levels.

The red alert, the highest tier in a four-colour warning system, will see factories closed and half of the city’s private cars taken off the road. It is only the second time a red alert has been issued since the warning system was introduced in 2013.

China’s first pollution red alert was issued in Beijing earlier in the month, on December 6.

Harmful PM2.5 particles measured more than 260 micrograms per cubic meter early on Saturday—close to ten and a half times the World Health Organization’s recommended maximum exposure of 25 over 24 hours.

Wouldn’t mind watching Al Gore glued to a downtown Beijing park bench without a mask for the next week.

There MUST be a way to blame this obvious global warming calamity on America! The American taxpayer must certainly fork over reparations!

My brother has been working in China for this past year.

The air is crap and it settles into people's lungs.

He and all his co-workers have lung issues ranging from colds that dont stop, to bronchitis, to pneumonia.

This is why we must give them an exemption on the climate change law. If we force the Chinese to clean up their environment, it will only make things dirtier. (And make the Chinese angry)

Yes, i am using liberal logic!

Didn’t old Horse Face’s Miracle In Gay Paree “deal” give the Chinese permission to release unlimited pollution into the atmosphere and the US taxpayers would pay them to do it?

Just in time to make big bucks for the carbon credit scam thanks to the NWO. Bejing will have to pay up long time to satisfy the globalist shysters

i was about to say near the same thing; late 70's it looked about that bad. You could barely make out downtown through the smog.

Here’s what the San Francisco Bay Area Air Quality Mgmt District has for these levels of polution:

http://www.sparetheair.org/stay-informed/todays-air-quality/air-quality-index

Right now in the Bay Area’s nine counties, the numbers run from 34 to 53,
so China is killing itself with their current levels of polution. We here are mandated not to have fireplace fires when our numbers go over 100. That happens maybe a dozen days during winter months, mostly when it’s clear and cold and no precip.

In addition to air pollution, the area around Beijing is under the threat of encroaching desertification. Seasonal winds already carry heavy dose of dust particles from desert. When they come, they blanket the entire city with the thick layer of dust. I have my doubts on the sustainability of cities in that area.
