Max Lucado is a pastor in San Antonio and a bestselling author of 32 books including the most recent Glory Days. In a 2004 piece, Christianity Today dubbed Max Lucado “America’s Pastor,†alluding to his broad appeal to mainstream Americans. Part of that appeal can be attributed to his approach to politics: typically, he stays out of it. He never endorsed or opposed a presidential candidate. Then Trump happened.
In a recent blog post, Max Lucado chose to speak out against what he calls Trump’s “antics,†insisting that, “such insensitivities wouldn’t even be acceptable even for a middle school student body election.â€
We talked to Lucado about his motivation for speaking up and how Trump has changed his attitude toward pastoral involvement in politics.
Prior to you publishing your post, “Decency for President†this week, how would you describe your typical approach to politics as a pastor?
I don’t even put a candidate’s bumper sticker on my car. People don’t attend church to hear my views on a presidential candidate.

In this case, it’s not so much a question about particular policies or strategies about government or even particular opinions. It’s a case of public derision of people. He and others met w Clinton shortly after his election in 92. He also spoke ar the 1999 natl prayer breakfast about divisiveness in politics. I dont suppose it makes him a Clinton supporter per se’ but I doubt he’ll write an article about demanding the decency of a possible hillary white house.
Because he, like too many people, let his ego run away with his reason.
I’m watching Pastor Robert Jeffress on TV right now, Pastor of the very large and influential First Baptist Church of Dallas, and he’s not judging Trump.....he’s endorsing him for President.
Max Lucado should know better, but he started out in the media as a journalist, perhaps he’s gone full circle.
He never spoke out about the attacks on religious freedom, the fining and jailing of sincere Christians or the policies that promote genocide against Christians in the middle east.
But Trumps “antics” get him so upset he just can no longer be silent.

Then he is a worthless pastor, a hireling that will answer to God for his dereliction in an area that affects his flock directly.

Pissing off a preacher is an endorsement in my book. Preachers are nice and you need a few around, but they generally shouldn’t be involved in men’s work. Stick to souls.

Churches used to be the HUB of political movements. Faith is an essential part of ALL human beings. Can’t have a separation of faith and human-—and ALL ideology promotes particular “faiths”.
With the unconstitutional infringement on speech and religion with these unconstitutional rules and regulations-—we are LOSING America, folks.
There is NO Constitutional “Right” to control our speech in a Church and religions and belief systems, if it is in line with Natural Law Theory and Right Reason, which true Christianity always has been and alway will be.
Our Justice System is based ONLY on (true) Christian Ethics which is based on Natural Law Theory and Revelation. No other “faith” is compatible with the Constitution and Natural Law (logic/reason)-—it is why atheists were never allowed on the court as judges or in juries for the first 200 years.
Can’t remove Right Reason and Free exercise of speech and religion and guns from our Constitution-—without destroying the Constitution and Freedom of Man.
We have to take back our Constitution—the SUPREME LAW of the Land-—and take the minds of our children and truly EDUCATE them as to the Virtues and Principles necessary for a Free Republic.
If he’s going to call himself a Christian one day and call someone a bimbo the next or make fun of somebody’s menstrual cycle, it’s just beyond reason to me.

Obama does a whole lot worse than calling people names - he allows persecution of Christians (in other countries & this one), goes against the Bible with abortion & gay marriage, is anti-Israel to the hilt, consorts with & embraces those who by their very “religion” are anti-Christian & in fact, want to see Christianity destroyed, and from what I can see, rarely attends a Christian church or carries a Bible. Sorry Max - normally I like you, but your objection to Trump sounds hypocritical to me.

Its not “insensitivity”; its free speech. We used to have that around here in this country. The listener can accept or reject it but the speaker has a right to say it.
I bet this RINO pastor didn’t say anything when Reagan called people, “loser”, “fat pig”, “motherf#^%$r”, etc.....

Why strike out against Trump, Max? Did you somehow forget about the inbred, foul stench of DC? I think they deserve a little more condemnation than a single individual who doesn’t measure up to your standards of “presidential performance.”
