I won’t engage in any sort of mocking of Caroline. Her life has had far too much tragedy for any one person to endure.

She has not been crazily outspoken like for example Chelsea Clinton.

She deserves some deference for the tragic circumstances of her life regardless of whether she lives in luxury.

I agree with you with this one caveat: Then that deference is due most people. I know plenty of people who have had multiple tragedies in their lives, but they're not in the public eye and people don't speak about them in reverential tones. This whole "tragedy of the Kennedys" thing is nonsense. People who speak of it always cast a too-wide net--every single bad thing that happens to every single Kennedy cousin or great uncle is "another Kennedy tragedy" that somehow befalls them all.

If you cast that kind of net in most people's families, you've got many tragedies. Has Caroline suffered more than some? Yes. Has Caroline suffered less than some? Yes. If we can't criticize her, we'd best not criticize most people. At least most people over the age of 50. It takes a while for the tragedies to mount up.

We have all had sadness and tragedy in our lives. Some of us have been fortunate that our male family members weren’t alcoholic, drug abusers and risk takers. Many of the Kennedy tragedies could have been avoided.
