With a 5-0 vote, a Colorado city has approved an ordinance that will make it illegal to sit or lie down on downtown sidewalks, curbs or other public areas. The measure passed at the May 15, 2018 Durango City Council meeting.

The city council acted after hearing numerous complaints from business owners and visitors about people laying in the middle of the sidewalks in the downtown business district.

Exemptions include people experiencing medical emergencies, people with disabilities, children in strollers or those attending parades, festivals, performances or other special events

Ha-ha! They legalize marijuana, then they’re shocked when all the dopers want to lay up.

So Democrats can’t campaign on city sidewalks?

When you have to legislate this, society breakdown is around the corner.

Unenforceable. Define “sitting.” Ass touching ground?
Try making a law about ACTIONS, not about INaction.

I’m all for this. If you own a downtown small business it hurts to have bums sprawled out all over the sidewalk and parking lot of your business. It scares away customers and scares employees. They also leave an incredible amount of trash. I have to spend 10-15 minutes every morning cleaning up the trash left by the bums the night before - and there’s a dumpster not 20 feet away.

I’m against this. What is the small inconvenience for a store owner, against the human right to sit or lie down? So what you have to pick up a little trash, what, do you hate poor people? Poor people are poor through no fault of their own! You hate the disadvantaged!!!

Can’t we just use tax money to give bums 100 bucks, a backpack full of liquor and a free ride to Berkley?

I think it’s a good idea as well....also those ‘making a living’ panhandling are more numerous today than those who are in real need. Put a cardboard sign around your neck and hold out your can....free money!

That’s what city councils do.....protect their cities and their people. It’s no secret fake panhandlers/homeless are becoming a ‘norm’ rather than working a job.

“Unenforceable.”

New Orleans has been enforcing a similar law for quite some time.
