So what did they do with all those gas taxes they’ve collected forever?
Sure. They blow money (not just in Ark) on everything but what the money was intended—like roads.
I saw some of this. I will not vote for any f these things.
Just last night I saw that a Bill has been proposed to change the terms of the Gambling Amendment that passed. They want to change the rules and require a local vote to have casino’s in Pope and Jefferson counties, yet they are exempting Garland and Crittenden counties from this.
Also on the matter of sports book betting, they don’t to allow betting on state college games unless they are playing out of state. What is that all about?
$293 million thats chump change. Our state, Washington WSDOT, spent $400 million on the first change order within 2 weeks of the project starting. The project was to rebuild the floating bridge across Lake Washington. After years of design, and only after 2 weeks under construction, the contractor discovered the pontoons wouldn’t float. Lotto time on the change order wheel of fortune.
They did end up firing the lead engineer and 1 other. They state legislators eventually got the hand picked Secretary of Transportation fired as well for that and several other high dollar and high profile change orders on projects she was ultimately responsible for. She was Governor, now Dem presidential candidate Inslee’s choice to lead the department.
True, but our sales and state/local tax rate is the 2nd highest in the nation right now. This bill if passed by the voters, would continue a 1/2 cent sales tax that was supposed to expire.
I don’t know about the college gambling issue. I know that folks in Pope County don’t want a Casino in their area. The crime and corruption from the casino isn’t worth the supposed money for education etc in any area.
I agree, I did not vote for that amendment. I don’t see gambling as a savior for anything. What I am curious about is this Senator Johnson who introduced this Bill declaring and Emergency and wants to force Jefferson and Pope counties to have a separate local election to decide and let Garland and Crittenden counties off with a pass.
I may not like it but the terms are the terms, how can they decide to change the rules. The Saracen Indian Tribe is already building their place in Pine Bluff.

Interesting. I would have never guessed that to be the case. In this chart of income, sales & property taxes Arkansas is ranked pretty high and basically tied with Massachusetts.

How do they section off these taxes from the general fund? Taxpayers should have recourse for wasted dollars.

The verrazano was supposed to charge tolls until it was paid off. I-m guessing that would have taken to the mid 70s

Tolls and taxes anywhere are tough to get rid of once they come into being
