BALTIMORE (WJZ)- Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis entered the Major League Baseball record books on Monday night yet again after his 0-for-5 performance against the Oakland Athletics pushed his hitless streak to 49 at-bats, setting the longest such streak ever recorded in baseball history.
Davis lined out to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning for the record-breaking out. In his second at-bat, Davis popped an easy foul ball that was dropped, giving him a potential gift-wrapped opportunity to avoid history. But he would then go on to hit a hard line drive to left field that was also caught.
Later, Davis would strike out looking in the bottom half of the seventh inning, then strike out again swinging in the eighth.
Former Giants and Dodgers infielder Eugenio Velez’s previously set the mark of 46 straight at bats without a hit that was set during the 2011 season.
The O’s first baseman hasn’t recorded a hit since September 14, 2018, when he knocked a double off of White Sox pitcher James Shields.
While Davis has continued to say that “no one is more frustrated than me” regarding his slump, Orioles fans are testing that statement as of late, showering him with boos during each plate appearance. Many other fans are calling for the O’s faithful to support the former All-Star, rather than add to the pressure.
This The Orioles still owe Davis around $92 million in guaranteed money due to the contract extension that he signed in the offseason of 2015. That contract will be paid out in deferred payments through the 2037 season. Last year, Davis also set an unflattering record after posting a .168 batting average over the course of 128 games and 522 plate appearances. That batting average is the worst for any qualified hitter in Major League Baseball history since the league adopted the current 162-game schedule.

Being a baseball mystic and guru today I am going to send my special personal baseball vibrations to Chris Davis in order for him to get some hits and get his mind right..... and END this ignoble streak.
Now, if the manager plays Chris tonight we'll be in business.
That chorus of boos which are now accompanying each at bat will soon disappear into Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
In order for these vibes to work at their highest and immediate efficiency, if anyone should talk with Chris today before tonight's game, let him know the vibes are heading his way and that he should let 'em in.

well, for $20mil + per year one could expect extra efforts to improve performance or luck, whatever it takes.
It would be a public service if the streak continued indefinitely.

I’ll bet that’s true. I could have thrown a ball, but to hit it with a melting bat would be problematic.
He needs to go home for a few days, visit his high school baseball coach, go watch a couple of little league games and come back with a new perspective. For Chris, the game is probably no longer fun and he is taking the grown up approach to resolving his issues at the plate.
I believe he forgot that this is a kids game, it’s supposed to be fun and he is needlessly stressing. Guy is making millions a year. Just go out and have fun. Look at the opposing pitchers as pitchers who you played against in high school.
Nothing wrong with him that some steroids won’t cure.
Yuuse gots your Mendoza line, and now youse gots your Davis line.
