I was working at the FAA and took a new guy upstairs to the cafeteria for coffee. The first plane had just hit and soon the second. I went down stairs and told the guys to turn on the TV and get ready for a busy day.
Can you imagine what the new guy had going through his head?
I imagine he was wishing he was anywhere but there.

I remember at time later in the day and knowing that all air traffic had halted.
Living in Ames Iowa I was looking to the south and noticed a contrail heading east.
I knew it had to be Air Force One, as everything else had been grounded. I believe it was known the President had headed to Offut for awhile after leaving Florida and he was heading back to DC.
I was glad to see that as we would start the process of going after the people who had done he attacks.
