Zuckerberg’s proposed law changes would cement Big Tech monopolies at the cost of upcoming platforms

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is once again calling for reform of the Communications Decency Act (CDA) Section 230 – as he once is again appearing before a US Congress committee.

Zuckerberg’s testimony on Thursday before the House Energy Committee revealed that Zuckerberg is proposing replacing automatic immunity from prosecution for user generated content with platforms like his own demonstrating that they have implemented “adequate” moderation and censorship systems.

He said that these systems would be used for “identifying unlawful content and removing it.” The thought behind this seems to be to convince critics that tech giants are doing everything to meet the ever-moving target of increased moderation – but some fear there might be more sinister overtones to the proposal, as it has the potential to place further financial obstacles before smaller competitors.

Under Section 230, online services cannot be sued for third party content hosted on their social media and other platforms. The law was passed in 1996.

Facebook, Twitter and Google don’t need a law change.

Their monopolies are secure due to “the network effect”. Once a critical mass of users is achieved it’s virtually impossible to dislodge them.

Well if the CEO of DARPAbook thinks that congress should pass some laws I hope they do it! He couldn’t possibly have any ulterior motives that could impact his direct competition.

Mussolini would approve. That’s what a Fascist government does: incorporates industry moguls into it with a guarantee of monopoly for them in return for obedience.

Zuck bought half the pie and now he intends to dictate how it’s made.

This country is nothing like our founders intended.

We sold some of it and gave the rest away.

Social media has shown relentless hostility to us. I see no reason to ever support anything that would help them. Deny them anything they want. Deny them any permit any law any benefit. Reciprocate their behavior.

I often wondered what would happen if those who control the Internet decided to shut off Zuckerberg and the other social media sites.

Gee! I WONDER if this has ANYTHING to do with President Trump starting up his OWN Social Media platform?

Nah. Couldn’t be. That would make me one of the 70K+ tinfoil-hat-wearing DISENFRANCHISED voters out there who would immediately sign up!

Look at Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey! These are billionaires that have all the medical and healthy dietary means at their disposal and yet they look like drugged out aliens or in Jack’s case - Rasputin himself.

These jokers control most of the worlds flow of information?

Shut him and them all down for illegal monopolistic collusion!

Then start over with clearer lines between publishers and utilities—and no federal thumbs on the scales!

Censorship in favor of the Democrats (including banning all GOP candidates and moderate Dem candidates in primaries, as well as censoring all conservative voices) in exchange for monopoly protections. All with loads of campaign cash and free advertising for the Democrats and liberal causes on the platforms.

If you saw the list of demands the Dems had, it was for even more censorship and the outright banning of conservative voices on these platforms, as well as GOP candidates. Also free advertising for the Democrats and liberal platforms, and gobs of campaign cash and donations to liberal super PAC’s and causes. This in exchange for the Democrats not launching anti-trust actions against them and blocking any upcoming social media sources.
