Some people just aren’t natural smilers. In America one is usually expected to present either a neutral expression or a slightly pleasant one. Many folks have a natural expression that to others may look like they’re annoyed, aggressive or impatient. Not always judging a book by the cover is a good thing.
Many women from a european background do not smile all that much when they meet people. It doesn’t always mean they’re pi**ed off. Melania Trump comes to mind. It took a long while for many Americans to get used to her flat, neutral expression. Turns out, that’s okay. This is her natural look when relaxed. Another First Lady had that same issue, Michelle Obama. Now, in Michelle’s case, I think she really IS pi**sed off most of the time.
