New York City Paid 114,000 Highly-Compensated Public Employees Earning $100,000+ (you get to pay)

New York City had more than 114,000 municipal workers earning $100,000 or more in 2019. That is up sharply from 76,166 employees with pay exceeding $100,000 in 2016.

Data comes a year before the pandemic hit and is the latest year available.

These were not just high-level employees like agency commissioners or deputy mayors. NYC employees included thermostat repairmen making up to $198,630; regular laborers hauling away $213,169; electricians taking home $253,132; and plumbers pocketing up to $286,245.

The cost of benefits would be additional and is not included in these figures.

These large paychecks are only sustainable because Congress bailed out New York City for $4.3 billion in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The federal bailout more than covered the overstated deficits of the city.

City officials estimated a $5.5 billion gap, but actual revenues came in $2.7 billion higher. Using $1.2 billion from reserves, and finding $1 billion in unspecified labor savings, among other things closed the budget gap.

Therefore, the federal money now exists for extra spending.

In December, Fitch Ratings downgraded New York City’s bond rating and issued a negative outlook

They're federalizing local deficits...everyone in the USA gets to pay for their debts.

There is not one thing you can do to correct or even influence this wrong.

I think it's even worse in SF.

This is a new form of wealth distribution. Given that conservatives mostly live outside of cities and leftist pieces of schiff live in hell hole cities, the movement of money is from conservatives to leftists.

This is just half of it. After 20 years, these public employees can retire at full lifetime benefits and pension — which they can start drawing immediately while only in their 40s — then take their money and run to a state like North Carolina, then proceed to f-up our state while enjoying lifelong vacation.

Fake governmental economy. Half of them don’t even know where their money comes from probably. They must think it comes from Obama’s stash.

Paying operating expenses with “debt” is a bad idea.

It’s like buying all of your groceries with a credit card that you don’t pay off every month. It will catch up with you.

This corruption is happening in cities throughout the USA-—even in cities with Republican mayors.

Government employees at the Fed, State, and Local level are the largest lobby group in the USA.

Until the taxpayers wise up, bloated salaries and benefits for government employees will continue to go up.

This is rampant in all of these Democrat controlled cities and states. It is the reason why NY, IL, CA, NJ, CT, MA, etc are all in the red to some extent.

There are union garbage collectors in NYC & Chicago that make more than doctors.

Many of these people then end up retiring in FL, SC and other Red states. They move up here to NH from MA, CT, RI & NY and then complain that their real estate taxes are too high. That NH should institute an income tax because it would be more fair.

This is misleading. It does not describe what these employees are doing. I imagine the thermostat repairman is on call and has some substantial overtime or after hours work. Same for the plumbers and other professionals.

We had complaints of a deputy in our county making around $300K. He was a resident deputy, meaning he had to live in the remote area he worked and was on call 24 hours a day. He was the only law enforcement for many miles. He had insane overtime and more than earned his pay. It should be noted that deputies do not last long in those positions as the burn out rate is high and they never get any time off.

Bull sh*t!

If they can't pay with their own money then they can't afford them. Stop sucking off (federal tit) everyone else.
