Sidney Powell fundraising groups under subpoena by federal prosecutors: report

Federal prosecutors have issued a subpoena demanding, as part of a criminal investigation, the financial records of several fundraising organizations founded by former federal prosecutor and Trump attorney Sidney Powell in the wake of the 2020 presidential election.

The grand jury subpoena was issued by the U.S. attorney's office for the District of Columbia in September and demanded communications and other documents regarding the fundraising of several groups, including Defending the Republic, according to The Washington Post.

The Department of Justice knows no restraint to its very dangerous game of criminalizing politics. As you point out, it smacks of the worst kind of totalitarianism. One need only point to the absence of subpoenas to attorney Mark Elias concerning his tampering with the 2020 election to illustrate its rank partisanship.

The subpoena is illegitimate but I am not unmindful of the problems associated with fundraising connected to The Tea Party Movement and I think that Sydney Powell ought to promptly make all those records completely public, apart from the names of those who contributed to publicly demonstrate that this is a bona fide effort for elective justice and not champerty.

In any event, the court should certainly redirect the names of any contributors it might order produced otherwise the real effect will be accomplished as intended which is to chill sources of money.

Powell was not wrong about the Steal and is guilty only of grasping at some straws, some of which will likely turn out to be true in the future.

I agree. The FBI raids on Project Veritas and Rudy Giuliani were similar efforts to gather information on anyone who opposes the current regime. I guess parents who oppose left-wing school boards would also be included. The FBI is insidious.
