The media have been making a big deal over a Washington Post/University of Maryland poll which finds that 34 percent of Americans believe violence can be justified against the government. It’s a poll meant to feed the hysteria over the Capitol Hill riot and embarrass Republicans into supporting “voting rights” bills and so on...
It’s a failure of our civic education that 100 percent of respondents didn’t answer yes. The ability to resist a tyrannical government is a foundational American idea. It was the justification for the founding revolution. It, not hunting or skeet shooting, is the core reason for existence of the Second Amendment — which, Joseph Story, an associate Supreme Court justice, said best, “offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers.”
Incidentally, the participants were asked to provide instances when violence against the state would be justified, and all of them are perfectly reasonable:
Government violates or takes away rights or freedoms/Oppresses people – 22 percent
Government no longer a democracy/ Becomes a dictatorship/Coup/ Military takes over – 15 percent
Government violates constitution — 13 percent
Government abuses power/Tyranny — 12 percent
Government is violent against citizens/Safety at risk – 11 percent
Contemporary liberals often view this form of rhetoric as an endorsement of treason because they view our rights as an arbitrary and malleable cluster of edicts handed down by the government. What sneering contemporary critics fail to comprehend is that the founding generation believed that those who would undermine the universal and inalienable liberties of the people laid out in the Constitution were traitors

I’m not surprised. Only about a third of Americans actively supported the Revolution in 1776, or so the story goes.
Dissent is what the Left Wing is all about except when conservatives do it. Then it’s terrorism.
Thomas Jefferson: The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
From the Declaration of Independence...
“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
only 3-4% took up arms
Imagine that
Tell that to a Leftist and they’ll say Thomas Jefferson was a white slave owner, as if that’s all the information you need to know. They won’t acknowledge that Jefferson himself opposed slavery, or anything else which doesn’t fit their immediate agenda. Right and wrong, and reality itself, are determined solely by how they feel at the time, constantly changing.
If you aren’t ready, willing and able to revolt against tyranny, elected or otherwise, you’re not much of an American. . Are ya? (Hitler was elected.)
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
Do you think it is ever justified for citizens to take violent action against the government, or is it never justified?
I think that is a very poorly worded question, but given the phrasing...I'd have to say "yes". It all depends on what the government is doing, doesn't it?
Peasants....if you want a revolution, you must ask the government's permission first!
Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson, born April 17, 1743, was chosen to write the Declaration of Independence first because he was a Virginian and second for his writing skill. Virginia was the most populous colony, but precipitating revolution events like Lexington, Concord, Bunker Hill, the siege of Boston, and the capture of Fort Ticonderoga happened up North. Virginia would cement an alliance by bringing Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia with it.
Jefferson was well satisfied with his writing but suffered a painful ordeal as the Continental Congress remade his work. His draft at 1704 words was 366 words longer than the final. The Congress proceeded to add 253 words, and remove or change the phrasing for 792 words, thereby transforming over 60% of his work. Among passages removed was a section complaining the mercantile system, imposed on the colonies by commercial charter, mandated the importation of slaves to the New World.
Britain had forbidden the colony’s two attempts to abolish slavery, but between the start of the revolution and writing of the Constitution six of thirteen colonies freed slaves. The philosophical doctrines consulted for the Declaration of Independence and Constitution placed master and slave on the same plain of existence, and thereby doomed the institution of slavery.
Decisions to denigrate Thomas Jefferson in historical accounts examples contra-factual analysis supporting newly popular morality. We remember Martin Luther King for achievements as a civil rights leader, and not adultery. Recognizing Jefferson commemorates his writing the Declaration of Independence, and not slave ownership.

Actually, throwing off a US government that has become tyrannical is sanctioned by the US Constitution via the very reason for the Second Amendment and supported and verified by our Founder’s arguments they made to adopt it as the Law of the Land. Our Founding Fathers see the defense of our Constitution as our duty as Americans!
If the Left continues the push towards a violent civil war, we need to get discussion for a peaceful divorce to grow.
If that does not work, we go to war and WIN.
.
I thought it was just 3%?
The Satanic vermin “in charge” of the federal government are not just enemies of We The People, but they are also enemies of Almighty God.
Read Jesus Christ’s discussion points in John 8:44 if confused.
Today that would be about 10-13 million people.
“When, in the course of human events...”
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
