47 states have laws requiring students recite Pledge of Allegiance

A Texas teacher agreed to pay a $90,000 settlement this week after he was sued by a student on First Amendment grounds for requiring a class to write out the Pledge of Allegiance.

The incident occurred in 2017 when teacher Benjie Arnold asked his class to write out the Pledge of Allegiance or receive a failing grade. The student, Mari Oliver, wrote a squiggly line on the paper, and failed the assignment as a result.

Oliver, who is Black, refused to write out the pledge over religious and social justice reasons relating to the treatment of Black Americans in the United States.

Forty-seven states in the U.S. require the Pledge of Allegiance be recited in public schools, with varying exemptions for students or staff who wish to opt out. The 1943 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, West Virginia V. Barnette, determined that no school or government can compel someone to recite the Pledge of Allegiance or salute the flag.

Time to deport little Ollie and her family. They obviously hate America and need to be sent somewhere where they don’t have to worry about “social justice” and they’d appreciate living. Africa or somewhere similar. Cuba or the Ukraine are nice.

Something they do...not really a requirement. If you don’t want to say the pledge...you don’t have to.

This might be a rally point. We need to turn back the country to UNITY, not diversity and dis-unity. The Republican Party could start by designing their platform on Unity, One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty Justice and All. And hijack that rainbow by demonstrating a multitude of ‘colors’ coalescing under ONE Rainbow. The alphabet causes represent less than 5% but are trying t ‘grow’ themselves by attacking our youth at their most vulnerable time in their lives. As is said, “A Divided House cannot stand”, let’s start rebuilding that foundation on Godly principles.

My firstborn son refused to recite the pledge of allegiance during Obama’s second term. When asked why, he told the student asking him that he could not pledge his allegiance to a country that was stupid enough to elect a race-baiting, war mongering, American-hating, coke-snorting hustler twice. Since he was widely known amongst his peers as a knowledgeable and unapologetic political beast, no one dared to challenge him.

The day after Trump was elected, he stood up, put his hand over his heart, and pledged loud and proud.

He strongly considered going into the military during Trump’s first term, but I cautioned him to wait until after the election.

Good thing I did. He would have been part of the patriot purge underway right now. Instead, he is finishing his degree and has a job lined up as a coordinator for a campaign in Oklahoma. He is working to replace RINOs on every level.

” We need to turn back the country to UNITY, not diversity and dis-unity.”

TOO LATE! NEVER HAPPEN!

A NEW country based on OUR values. Join and agree, don’t and “BYE”.

Trump tried, and look what happened to him! NOW, its even WORSE!

The left will do ANYTHING to prevent a Trump second term.

Trump/DeSantis for 4, DeSantis/? for 8, then MAYBE, just MAYBE a SLIM chance to save the nation.

In a similar spirit, here's something about flags.

Note: the peace flag depicted should have more stars.

Once they eliminate the flag, the pledge and soon the constitution, we will not longer be the US.

This one they’re right. The Pledge is commie indoctrination to worship the symbol no matter who’s wielding it. My allegiance is not now, nor has it ever been, and damned well will never be to the flag. It’s the Constitution and the People. They’re where my allegiance lies.

Ask Oliver to name a country that gives minorities MORE opportunities than the U.S.

The Left's next target.

Former target. My understanding from high school students we know is that pre-covid, about half stood for the pledge but post-covid, none stand. Zero.

I’m against the pledge. It’s like the national anthem at sporting events. It has nothing to do with sports-it’s a distraction. It’s called freedom. No need to be coerced.

Perfect, would love to see that combination of historic words used in a modern setting.

There has been so many opportunities for the GOP to clearly state what they are about (should be about) and for whatever reason they never seize the opportunity.

They also need the right speakers. It’s not Mitch Mcconnell or Mitt, or many other tired GOP retreads.. Even some of the congrescritters we like may not be the best voices. I think it’s strong articulate voices that speak boldly and proudly about the alternative view that is never on TV.

Would love the message to be hard right, but I’ll take a non-left GOP as a start.

The GOP is about themselves. They’re a political party, they have no values, they just want to perpetuate themselves.

The "Bellamy Salute" is also shown in a "palm-up" version at: laprogressive.com

BTW: Ukrainians place their right hand over their heart when singing their national anthem. (Also).
