We should be thankful to be in the US. Many years ago, when I was in grad school, we had the first batch of Chinese scientists come as postdocs in our lab at UMASS. They had been scientists before the cultural revolution. The scientists had been forced to work in menial jobs. I got to know one who actually came to the University of Minnesota (I was in an Industrial Fellowship there at the time). He barely got out of China. He had been at some of the protests at Tianamin Square and his brother, who worked at the Police Station, pulled his file and destroyed it. I invited him to work in my lab (with management approval). I was amazed at the work ethic he had. He ended up working for Proctor and Gamble. I wish all Americans cultivated that work ethic and persistence. We would be a much stronger country.
the problem many people have with chinese scientists coming to the USA now is that they are required by chinese law to be spies.
