If that Brit had not come along building a railway (something the locals hadn’t quite gotten around to yet) and rescued the statue from a spot where it was destined to lay forgotten, and found a place for it at a museum, it would have literally never seen the light of day.
That’s not loot. That’s conservation.
Probably the biggest contribution of all, a common language. There are literally a thousand different languages in India, but most Indians do also speak English.
If the INJUNS of INJAH had found the statue and kept it to themselves, they would have melted it down into trinkets to be sold in the bazaar!
