Ukraine has not reached a ‘stalemate’ against Russia: White House
The Hill ^ | 08/22/2023 | “We do not assess that the conflict is a stalemate,” he said in a briefing with reporters. Ukraine

The White House on Tuesday said it did not assess that Ukraine has reached a stalemate in its defensive war against Russia, as reports from the battlefield detail Kyiv’s struggles to oust Moscow’s forces from dug-in positions on the front lines.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan, responding to a reporter’s question, said that Ukraine is taking territory on a “methodical, systematic basis.”

“We do not assess that the conflict is a stalemate,” he said in a briefing with reporters.

Ukraine’s second, major counteroffensive that was launched in June has proceeded much slower than its first major push in September 2022, during which Ukrainian forces retook an estimated 3,000 square miles of territory within a few days.

Such great words from a country not fighting the bloody WW-I/civil war trench warfare that is killing hundreds of thousands.

so why can’t Russia defeat a country 1/20th of its size?

and Russia can’t even stop that country from launching strikes deep within its territory LOL

Weak minds keep repeating the same thing over and over.

“WWI trench warfare killing hundreds of thousands” is the latest.

Just because the Russians have defensive lines that include trenches did not turn this into World War I. Not even close.

Both the Russians and the Ukrainians have far more maneuvering room on multiple fronts, with some fighting in small cities and villages.

Nor have hundreds of thousands died in this few months of offensive action.

"so why can’t Russia defeat a country 1/20th of its size?"

Uhm, Russia is fighting America and NATO to a standstill and chewing up all of the war material that they give the Ukrainians that the Ukrainians have not stolen and sold off.

If we could send another hundred billion maybe the Ukes could perform well enough to make stalemate status.

Russia did defeat a country 1/20 its size then NATO got involved. NATO which spends 22 times what Russia does on its military can’t defeat Russia.

Russia had a harder time beating Finland with 2 wars in the early 40’s. But they still won both wars in the end.

Fighting NATO. ROFLOL. When your military sites are destroyed by aircraft you didn’t know were there, and you can’t put a fighter in the sky, or make a shipment or move a convoy, then you know your fighting NATO. When you can’t move a ship without it being destroyed, make a oil delivery, then you know your fighting NATO. Get real, Russia is fighting leftovers and outdated NATO equipment, with no NATO airforce, armies, or navy. While it’s true that the war isn’t a stalemate (Ukraine is consistently advancing) the Ukrainian progress is snail pace slow.

Facts on the ground are what matter.

The Russians have the territory they needed and they are dug in with three layered lines of defense and a gray zone defense of minefields and pre-calibrated artillery which has dealt with the Ukes before they could even reach the first line.

NATO has a bleak choice. Commit to all-out war involving all NATO forces, and drive Russia out completely at the cost of many millions of deaths stemming from the use of WMDs. Or, let the alliance fall apart as it surely will, after NATO is forced to capitulate to permanent Russian territorial advances.

A stalemate would be almost a victory for Ukraine. They will never do that well.

Serious? Haw many have been killed since 2014? Tell me how many dead on both sides and how this is the good war.

The offensive itself has thousands dead, some saying as many as 50,000 Ukrainians and 10,000 Russians. Depending on which rag you read or programs estimates are a MEAGER 100,000 to 500,000.

It’s as bad as Syria and as bad as Yemen.

The White House, for once, is right. The Northern front has collapsed for Ukraine and now Russia is relentlessly rolling up real estate.

As to the South...yep, pretty much a stalemate.

You can be sure of one thing. If it’s coming from this White House, then the exact opposite is true.

Remember, DJT is a Russian operative and the border is secure.
