Exclusive — McCarthy Details Impeachment Inquiry Process: ‘If We Move Forward,’ It ‘Would Occur Through a Vote’ on House Floor

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made clear to Breitbart News on Friday that if House Republicans move forward with an impeachment inquiry into Democrat President Joe Biden, the move would come not as an announcement from him or anyone else, but from a formal vote on the floor of the House.

“To open an impeachment inquiry is a serious matter, and House Republicans would not take it lightly or use it for political purposes. The American people deserve to be heard on this matter through their elected representatives,” McCarthy told Breitbart News. “That’s why, if we move forward with an impeachment inquiry, it would occur through a vote on the floor of the People’s House and not through a declaration by one person.”

If we are going to bring back the rule of law we should respect the law when it comes to impeachment. However, voting to conduct an inquiry doesn’t make sense.

With the membership of 222 Republicans and 213 Democrats, hardly any Republicans can defect, to get an impeachment through the House.

Then there’s the whole issue, that we will never see a Senate conviction even if there is a House impeachment.

I know there’s divided opinion on Free Republic, if we should even go for an impeachment, when it will never remove Biden from office.

Then with only a year and 2 months until the election, some Freepers have suggested, we focus on the next election, because if we do impeachment, the focus on impeachment will detract from our campaigning for the election.

Whether impeachment or regular legislation, things do not move forward without a count of the votes of support.

Can they go any slower? They should take a vote on Monday, investigate for next 30-60 days, then vote on impeachment. What they instead are doing is to drag this out for political talking points with no intent to actually impeach Biden (or to impeach him after November 2024 when it no longer matters.

An impeachment inquiry should in the appropriate committee. If warranted by the investigation, it then gets forwarded to the full House. In short, McCarthy is asking the whole house to vote on an inquiry before the evidence is produced. So, he appears to be short-circuiting the investigatory process. He’s a typical swamp creature, as we have known for some time.
