I’ve noticed over the years that the crackpots and nutjobs just attach themselves to the random issues of the day. They really don’t care either way and are perfectly happy to get their jollies in fellowship with like empty minded folks.
Just consider every person you see online that you’ve never met to be psychotic and it works pretty well. Random people on twitter or forums aren’t real people.
Online places tend to form parasocial relationships and ‘friendships’ that can get good over time, but you have to use your judgement well.
