Our bases in Syria and Iraq have become missile magnets. We need to leave.

Are we going to leave vast stock piles of weapons/munitions behind as Biden did in Afghanistan?

A pull-out wouldnt surprse me. We’ve already developed the methodology for a sudden, unprincipled, and disasterous pull-out.

“Read more at foreignpolicy.com”

If this bunch wants us in Syria, then it’s a damn good reason to pull out.

I’m thinking that Biden’s bunch may be getting a bit nervous regarding a possible ‘October Surprise’ by some of the locals in that part of the world, and so they’re trying to give them less opportunity.

But, regardless, we NEVER had any business messing around in Syria and the best thing that can happen for the people, including their large Christian population, is for the Neocons to get as FAR AWAY as possible.

Staying is a bigger disaster
It’s never been clear under what authority we deployed troops in Syria
At oilfields

We have only a small contingent guarding oilfields ( which I guess the oil being shipped out is funding Kurds and our alphabet bois still training the “SDF” Kurds, SAA deserters, and islamist militants in vain hopes of toppling Assad)

Better withdrawn than emergency evacuated under Iranian attack

Remember when Trump tried to do this….

What I heard is that the current admin has our forces cordoning off the farmlands of Syria in an attempt to starve the Syrians into toppling their govt. We need to get out for both practical and ethical reasons.

Shoot the IS prisoners and withdraw from Iraq and Syria.

We have no interests there.

At the behest of his dear friends in Iran, Biden is granting them a good will gesture so they will not use more than one nuclear devise on US soil.

This is happening because Iraq is about to formerly ask all US troops to leave. The US-Syria bases are supplied from Iraq. Iraq is fed up with us staying there and have refused to allow US personnel to leave Iraq bases, and are threatening to cut off all supply flights even into Iraq. So we are losing the ability to resupply the US bases in Syria and Iraq. Sitting ducks all around. Way past time to get completely out of both countries.

It should be cause for significant concern, however, that this could involve a full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria

No, it's a cause for rejoicing.

And just imagine if they were deployed along the Rio Grande!

Foreign Policy Magazine is the Penthouse and Hustler magazine for globalists and neocons. Lord only knows what they are thinking when they open its cover.

Are we taking bets on how much equipment will get left behind?

The Vegas over/under is at $70 billion.....

Good. Bring all our troops home, beef up our defenses and screw these foreign entanglements.

Obama sent troops to Syria. President Trump ordered them all removed. And he was consistently ied to about the number of troops in Syria.

Iran is either a credible threat to the U.S. or not. If it is, we want bases there and if not, get out. I actually think Iran is a very real threat, mostly by igniting a world war. Assetts in the region let us parlay and leverage resistance to Iran's intentions. Once you leave, it is really hard to get back in and reestablish a base of operations. The mistake, of course, and cited by others on this forum, was the Bushinistas toppling Saddam. Saddam was the balance to Iran. He was weak enough militarily (Iran's army was 2 to 3 times as big as Iraq's) that he had to convince everyone he had weapons of mass destruction (bio and chemical). He did a good job of that and ironically resulted in his demise. But that is looking back, now Iran is unleashed and the U.S. and Israel, mostly Israel with the Biden administration, is really what is keeping Iran in check.

If the US had assisted Assad Senior in eliminating the Muslim Brotherhood (and similar organizations) in Syria and surrounding nations, we could have a neutral relationship with Syria now, saved Lebanon and easily influenced Assad to make peace with Israel and ended the Golan Heights standoff.
