Why didn’t they name it Ft Pope?

Ft Bragg already houses Pope AFB, so the name was already taken.

From https://www.popeafbhousing.com/history#:~:text=In%202011%20Pope%20AFB%20was,back%20to%20its%20airborne%20roots.

"In 2011 Pope AFB was inactivated and was renamed Pope Field again, transferred to Fort Bragg, now housing and hosting the 43rd Airlift Group, once again bringing Bragg back to its airborne roots."

There is no "Pope AFB" anymore. It was re-absorbed into Bragg as Pope Field. If they had to change the name from Bragg, then use "Pope".
