"I believe the Bush Gore mess in 2000 was the loony tunes beginning of the current batch of Progressives."

Agreed. That was the beginning of much if not all of the madness that is going on right now.

I believe the tally in FL was close enough to justify the recount, then Gore and his buds got in a room and gamed out just what they could do to swing the county their way. What's the worst that could happen, Gore loses, he'd already lost. No one puts the lawyer in jail if they fail.

Gore V Bush was the metaphysical starting gun for the all the crazy to come pouring out of the cracks. The more they try, the more they succeed.

The networks declared for an hour the polls were all closed in Florida while they remained open in the panhandle, a very Republican part of the state. Some of them even called the state for Gore - while polls were *still open*. This was estimated to have cost Bush a net loss of 10,000 votes from people listening to these reports and believing the polls were closed in that area. Even if it were just a fraction of that amount, and Bush’s lead was in the thousands vs. hundreds, none of that fiasco could have occurred. Look at how close they came to pulling it off.

I don’t know a single American who did not breath a huge sigh of relief on 12 September 2001 and say ‘Thank God Al Gore lost’…..
