The mistake people make is in making the giant pretense that all through the period western nations were helping the struggling democracy in Ukraine that Vladimir Putin was and had been doning nothing, overtly and covertly, to undermine Ukraine’s democratic efforts and develop Ukraine institutions compliant to him. Putin’s efforts began long before 2014, going back as far as 2004 when his minions poisoned Victor Yushchenko. That was not the last of Putin’s political machinations in Ukraine.
