My grandfather also went with Pershing “Over There”. Plenty of sauce for that. He lived in misery the rest of his life because of mustard gas. He would never talk about it. I was only 13 when he passed on so my memories are a tad fuzzy.
Wow - your grandfather and mine were likely in the same unit on the border - however my grand pappy lost a finger chasing Poncho - never deployed to Europe.
