Hollywood Studios Reap $25 Billion from States’ Film Tax Credits; Taxpayers See Massive Losses
Breitbart ^ | 03/24/2024 | David Ng

Hollywood has reportedly received a whopping $25 billion in state tax incentives to date — a win for studios like Disney and Netflix but a big “L” for ordinary taxpayers, who are footing the bill for the giveaways.

Frequently championed by Democrats, state tax credits for movie and TV productions are intended to juice local economies by creating jobs and boosting revenue for small businesses that provide services like catering and transportation. That, in turn, is supposed to generate more tax dollars.

But despite the $25 billion spent so far, states are seeing paltry returns on their investment — sometimes less than 20 cents on each dollar given away, according to studies cited in a New York Times report.

False premise.

It assumes the films would have been made, and the taxes paid, if the incentives were not offered.

Those are not safe or clear assumptions.

Having worked on the film commission in Colorado in the early 90s, the bigger picture was to entice, specifically, TV series. Regardless, whatever production vehicle came, the goal was to show off the city and state’s beauty in the film as to entice businesses to anchor here and tourists to visit. However, at the sacrifice of $25 BILLION, what the hell would they need Hollywood for??

As an aside, even back then, it was fun to work alongside liberals who wouldn’t shut up about the increasingly popular “tax incentives” while also voting for tax and spend democrats.

Yes, it does and a lot of Hollywood people have 2nd and even primary residences there. And they vote there.
