When you see someone with dead eyes you don’t hire there to deal with the young, disabled or elderly. Anyone too stupid to know that should be fired.
My kids knew I always had their back. If anyone did something to them or asked them to do something they were not comfortable with, they knew they could speak up, resist, defy, fight back...it didn’t matter who.
I would defend them to the death and crush anyone who messed with them. I taught them stranger danger, how to value their person, and how to deal with bullies.
One would think that with this kind of encouragement, my kids would have been total heathens. On the contrary, they were universally regarded as some of the best kids in the class.
My kids were not afraid of anyone except me.
And if I sat down from across an administrator, they quickly learned I was not to be triffeld with.
Right! Instead, when I hire someone with "dead eyes," I immediately assign them to a posting with HR.
