I wasn't sure how things would go at the museum today. There was rain moving this way when I left this morning but it apparently fizzled out before it got all the way over here. No fog down here but when I reached the top of the mountain, visibility was MAYBE 100 feet. The last few miles to the museum were at a snail crawl. It started lifting not long after I got there at least.
They rolled the cannon out to the parking lot around 10 and got it set up. We already had a decent crowd inside checking out the museum. The plan was to fire three volleys - at noon, 1:00, and 2:00, but the owner decided to add one more and the first shot was fired at 11:00.
OMG, that thing is LOUD!!! I've been around cannon fire before and though loud, it wasn't too bad. But those cannons were smaller than the Howitzer.
And the concussion was something else. It shook the ground so hard I swear my feet bounced a couple of inches off the ground. LOL It did knock me back a couple of steps.
It . was . AWESOME!!!
I got video of the first shot. It was the only way I knew I could get the moment the cannon fired - - screen capture when I played the video on the computer.
The owner is the gentleman in uniform. I think he had as much fun as the rest of us did.
We were busy all day and I never got a chance to sit down. And I didn't get a chance to ride in the APC. :-(
We only got 3/8ths of an inch. It sure seemed like more! But I ain’t complaining and neither are any of our plants. Everything looks happy. Including me.
W O W! What a great screenshot! I’ll bet you were over the moon at getting to see and HEAR those babies be fired. I hope they...and you?...wore ear protection. It has to be 100 times louder than a gun. What a day. I’ll bet the guests were in awe! I sure would have been! Thanks for sharing!
Wow - the cannon firing sounds like it was really cool. Thanks for posting your experience and I’m glad you had such a good time!
And luvie, glad you got some rain. We did too!
So cool...a cannon!! BOOM!!!!!
