It sounds like we had pretty much the same weather today. I saw 58 degrees on the thermometer this afternoon. The numbers were inverted Thursday. They say we’ll drop into the mid 30s overnight. BRRR We’ll slowly warm up again through the week and be back around 80 next weekend.

We have several “little winters” before Spring finally shoves Old Man Winter off for good. He just doesn’t want to let go. LOL

My poor plants in the garage are ready to go back outside but I don’t dare do it until I know the nights will stay warm enough. I’m not hauling them back and forth.

Your plants will thank you later when they haven’t been killed by a very late near-freeze. Did your red dogwood survive its bout with freezing weather?

The rain has really helped ours. Hubby planted sunflowers in the front bed again this year and one of them is already waist-high to me. Granted, I’m not tall, but they are really busting loose from the rain.

Community in Christ

Bible in a Year :

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:12

“I knew that the only way to succeed was to forget about home and my wife, son, and daughter,” said Jordon. “I’ve found I can’t do that. They’re woven into the fabric of my heart and soul.” Alone in a remote area, Jordon was participating in a reality show where contestants are asked to survive outdoors with minimal supplies for as long as possible. What forced him to forfeit was not the grizzly bears, freezing temperatures, injury, or hunger, but an overwhelming loneliness and desire to be with his family.

We might have all the survival skills necessary for the wilderness, but separating ourselves from community is a sure way to fail. The wise author of Ecclesiastes said, “Two are better than one, because . . . one can help the other up” (4:9-10). Christ-honoring community, even with all its messiness, is essential to our thriving. We don’t stand a chance against the trials of this world if we try to tackle them on our own. Someone who toils alone, toils in vain (v. 8). Without community, we’re more susceptible to danger (vv. 11-12). Unlike a single thread, “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (v. 12). The gift of a loving, Christ-focused community is one that not only provides encouragement, but also gives us strength to thrive despite challenging situations. We need each other. .

Reflect & Pray

How can you commit to spending time with the family of believers? Who around you is isolated and in need?

Father, thank You for the gift of community! Open my heart to love and spend time with others today.

A very pleasant good Monday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

Yesterday at Comanche Lake:

How's everyone doing this morning?

Yes, the dogwood’s blossoms survived. It wasn’t a heavy frost, fortunately.

There’ll be some happy birds around your house when the sunflowers go to seed. Did he plant really tall ones or go with a shorter variety?

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

It looks like Gizmo had a grand time at Comanche Lake yesterday. Is that the same bird or did he find another one to roll in? LOL

Good for the dogwood! I'm glad the blossoms survived to give you pleasure in seeing them when you went out. When the pollen wasn't eating your lunch, that is. LOL!

Yes, these are the very tall ones. I think they got up to over 6' tall, some of them, last year. Some had the plate-sized blooms, and others had saucer sized or a bit smaller.

They are such happy flowers, and the birds were happy, too, when they went to seed.

((LOL))Actually, Gizmo is a he. His mother is a rescue dog.

And yep, that's the very same bird he's been having fun with. He just loves that spot.

Two varieties. Very nice. A nice splash of bright color this summer. And some very happy birds.

The dogwoods’ blossoms are pretty much spent now. No more splashes of white, pink, and red around the area now and that’s pretty much the end of blossoming trees. Now the colors are on the ground as flowers start outing on their shows. Some of the irises around the farm are beginning to bloom. Heck, there are still a few daffodils blooming. LOL

Dang, isn’t there someone who picks up litter lying around the lake who could have picked up that poor bird? LOL Not much left of it at this point other than feathers. Gizmo’s happy about it at least.

I think all my irises have given up the ghost. They come up and look really healthy, but don’t bloom any more. So sad. They are one of my favorite flowers and the ones I have came from my aunt and hubby’s aunt.

And I’ve about given up the ghost, too. I’m so sleepy. I didn’t sleep well last night and had a really short nap this afternoon full of dreams that made me tired. LOL! See ya tomorrow! It’ll start warming up tomorrow. Not horribly, though. *whew*

Dang, that sucks. Have the bulbs multiplied to the point they’re crowded? If so, they won’t bloom. All you have to do is dig some up and plant them in another spot.

I need to do that with the gorgeous white irises Dad sent several years ago. Their leaves are up but there isn’t a single bud stem. They usually start blooming on my birthday. Another variety Dad sent are blooming now. The other two will do their thing soon.
Others that were planted by Hubby’s mom and aunt are starting to bloom now. Like the daffodils, different varieties bloom at different times.

Get some good sleep tonight. No weird dreams. :-)
Catch ya tomorrow.

Gizmo sure looks like a super happy carefree dog. 🐶
The view of the lake is beautiful.

All my silly dogs (past and present) had been rescued. They are the most incredible, loyal dogs!

Have a great week! 🙂
