If the West is defeated in the next war, the Russians may take back Alaska, which had been a Russian possession until 1867, when we bought it for $15 million. I doubt the Russians will be overly concerned with “indigenous knowledge.” The Chinese will take Hawaii as a naval base. The CCP could take California for the agricultural bounty of that state, cleaning out the riff raff from Southern California and the Bay Area.

Some Alaskans do not want the roads. The Tongass National Forest trees are of poor quality and are good only for pulp. The copper mine would destroy the largest run of Sockeye salmon in the world, as the mine’s effluents leak and leech into the rivers and water tables, poisoning both.
