I was on the tarmac with my scout troop when the first F-14 landed at Miramar with the Secretary of the Navy in the RIO seat. My 2nd home was in Mira Mesa...one mile north of the runway at Miramar. Front row seats for Top Gun training and a short bike ride to the annual air show. When the Navy passed the facility to the Marines, the air traffic changed. Lots of very noisy helicopters and F/A-18 jets. Much noisier than the F-14s.

Good evening, Myrddin, and thanks for sharing your experiences.

I guess so...front row seats. The sounds of freedom.
