Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that a national abortion ban could not get 60 votes in the Senate, therefore the issue would be sorted out in the states.
Host Kristen Welker said, “I want to talk about abortion which, as you know, is one of the biggest issues for people all across this country right now. Back in 2022 you said a national ban was possible. So as I sit here today I want to ask you, leader McConnell, would you support a federal ban on abortion?”

“Back in 2022 you said a national ban was possible. So as I sit here today I want to ask you, leader McConnell, would you support a federal ban on abortion?”
McConnell is backing away from protecting Life and refusing to extend 14th Amendment Equal Protections to the unborn.
Politics is politics. However, I think Scalia was right and Alito was right - the federal Constitution is mute on abortion, and provides no basis for federal intervention in the abortion decisions of the states, without a Constitutional amendment to change that.
Until we change hearts and minds through facts, a national ban is an illusion.
For once Mitch is right. Abortion is a states right issue. Like it or not that’s the US Constitution at work.
"McConnell: National Abortion Ban Not Likely, Will Be ‘Sorted Out at the State Level’"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Forget post-17th Amendment ratification McConnell's deceptive (imo) comment that a national abortion ban is not likely. The federal government has no constitutional authority to address abortion, for or against.
The states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect abortion as a right. So the Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson decision that overturn Roe v. Wade politically hides the problem that Roe v. Wade was a MAJOR constitutional scandal imo.
Morally bankrupt Democrats and RINOs took advantage of Roe v. Wade by exploiting constitutionally clueless, pro-abortion voters to stay in power.
Democrats [and RINOs] Are Terrified Of An Educated And Informed Public (3.12.23)
But there’s a federal law banning partial birth abortion, so there can be federal laws, not just state laws, regulating abortion.
The federal ban on partial birth abortion was upheld by the Supreme Court.
For ONCE the turtle gets it right. If they want to talk about abortion, do it AFTER the election...unless instead you want to lose.
