Huntington Mayor Petitions for Abortion Ballot Measure Discussion in West Virginia's Special Session

The mayor of Huntington, Steve Williams, has initiated a petition. He wants Gov. Jim Justice to talk about a potential abortion vote during the special session in May. The Supreme Court of the United States reversed Roe v. Wade in 2022. This resulted in West Virginia implementing a near-complete abortion ban known as the Unborn Child Protection Act.

This act makes most abortions in the state illegal. Exceptions exist for situations where the mother's life is at risk, or in cases of rape and incest reported quickly to the police. Williams, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, wishes to add reproductive rights to the special session's agenda. He argues that if politicians believe the public supports the abortion ban, they should allow a vote on it. If the proposed vote is approved, it would let voters decide on abortion rights in the state.

Williams also pointed out the position of ex-President Donald Trump on abortion. He supported the idea that states should make the decision. Williams noted that seven states have already voted in favor of abortion rights measures.

He expects more states to do the same this year.

FReepers kindly contact Mayor Steve William and tell him we abhor abortion in West Virginia

While you are at it tell the good mayor that Huntington is a drug cesspool and he needs to work on cleaning that up and not worried about abortion.
