Israel nearly succeeded in eliminating Yahya Sinwar
Arutz Sheva ^ | 4/5/24

Posted on 05/08/2024 6:22:46 AM PDT by Eleutheria5

National Security Council chief Tzachi Hanegbi spoke about a military operation in Rafah, stressing that, "the decision has been made - the question is not if, but when."

Speaking to Israel's "Meet the Press" program, Hanegbi said, "Sinwar is living on borrowed time."

"He escaped from one burrow to the next, we were very close to him. There are those who would say that we were incredibly close, at one point. Maybe even less than a few days."

Comparing Sinwar to Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who was eliminated by US forces in 2011, Hanegbi promised that Sinwar "won't come out alive," but added that "patience is necessary."

"When we say that we are 'a step away from complete victory,' we need to understand what that means," Hanegbi said. "These are three ambitious goals, but we will achieve them. The first goal is to create the conditions to return the hostages. Over half of them have already returned, and we are fighting and praying for the lives of every single one of those who remain - and hope that the deal will save lives. We will achieve the second goal, of destroying Hamas' governing and military abilities. The third goal, which is of utmost importance, is to ensure that Gaza will never present a threat such as this, of massacring Israelis."

Yahya Sinwar born in 1962 in Gaza, has been Hamas’s leader in Gaza and a member of its Politburo since 2017. He is considered to be one of the main figures connecting Hamas’s politburo with its armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades (IQB). He has led a re-evaluation of Hamas’s external relations, including an improvement in relations with Egypt. Sinwar has also let it be known he will punish anyone obstructing the reconciliation process with Fatah. He has reportedly also sent emissaries to Mahmoud Abbas offering to integrate the IQB into a national Palestinian security force under Palestinian Authority control.

Sinwar has been arrested by Israel on a number of occasions, spending a total of 24 years in prison. He was among the Palestinian prisoners released in exchange for Hamas’s freeing of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2011. Sinwar reportedly helped establish Hamas’s internal security force (“al-Majd”) in 1988. In September 2015 Sinwar was listed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) by the US Department of State.

NO. Do not kill him. Capture him and make him stand trial, just like Adolp Eichmann did. Fully televised world wide..

That was 20 years ago though & he made an easy target 😋:

In 2004, he was killed when an Israeli helicopter gunship fired a missile at him as he was being wheeled from Fajr prayer in Gaza City.

Rewarding yes, impressive, not as much. 😋

Adolf Eichmann was a relic from a past war and era. Silwan is part of an ongoing war, and his soldiers will still be out there raising hell even after he’s dead. So if he’s taken alive, he should be “interrogated” thoroughly, and all of the intelligence should be acted on immediately. When he’s drained dry, just shoot him and bury him. Let those scumbags try getting him liberated, and when Israel finally relents, deliver his maggoty corpse wrapped in a pigskin.

I remember that day very well.

I logged on to FR and read about it.

Same with Rantissi.

Seems like 2 lifetimes ago given all the personal changes I’ve been through.

Wow - You could have told me all I’ve seen just these past 16 years and I would have said no way could that happen.

yikes

Leon Klinghoffer, also in a wheelchair, was murdered by the PLO while a passenger on the Achille Lauro. No sympathy for muzzlime eliminations like Yahya Sinwar. The more, the better.

Ok Delong ya got me.

Wouldn’t it have been smarter to off him when they had the chance? Israel’s enemies have had a known propensity to do worse. It’s like B.J. being offered Osama on a silver platter-could have prevented 911-an ounce of prevention thing. Khadafy’s capture was never subject to negotiation.

Rudy did stop and frisk. Bernie Goetz made the subway safer for a couple of weeks. These tactics can apply on the international level. Think Pinochet. Will eternal vigilance ever be eternal?

Things about the US & the world has changed dramatically. I was not happy with the changes, but I assumed that it would turn around. The fact that it hasn’t, and has only gotten worse, has surprised me as well.

This downward slide will not reverse. Too much damage has been done.

I wish I could believe otherwise. Then again, Joe's working really hard at his legacy....

It proves the adage of hindsight always being more revealing than foresight. 🙂👍

Wouldn't we all be better off it we had the foresight that hindsight brings into more clarity? 🙂

You have a better memory than I. 🙂👍

I never read the book, but I saw the movies.

Once he was as great as his fame made him. His knowledge was deep, his thought was subtle, and his hands marvelously skilled; and he had a power over the minds of others. The wise he could persuade, and the smaller folk he could daunt. That power he certainly still keeps.

Saruman, also called Saruman the White, later Saruman of Many Colours, is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings. He is leader of the Istari, wizards sent to Middle-earth in human form by the godlike Valar to challenge Sauron, the main antagonist of the novel, but eventually he desires Sauron's power for himself and tries to take over Middle-earth by force from his base at Isengard. His schemes feature prominently in the second volume, The Two Towers; he appears briefly at the end of the third volume, The Return of the King. His earlier history is summarized in the posthumously published The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.
