I just think non-motorized bikes are more closely related to pedestrians than are cars to bikes or pedestrians. By weight alone, a bike shouldn’t be ridden on a road if a sidewalk is available. Where I live, roads are busy, sidewalks see very little foot-traffic in town.

In some places riding a bicycle on a sidewalk is illegal unless the walk has been designated as a multi-use path.
