(NewsNation) — The mother of a North Carolina high school student who was suspended for asking about the term “illegal alien” in class says the punishment could hinder his college prospects if it remains on his record.
Leah McGhee said her 16-year-old son Christian, a 10th grader at Central Davidson High School, was just asking a question when he used the term, which the school allegedly equated “to a vicious racial slur.”
“Christian is raised in a household that instills the beliefs in the following of Jesus Christ. For him, that hurts even more, because he knows in his heart, he has zero racism in his heart,” McGhee said Tuesday on NewsNation’s “On Balance.”
Antisemitism ‘is happening in our high schools’: Rep. Aaron Bean The family represented by the Liberty Justice Center filed a lawsuit against the school district, alleging violations of Christian’s free speech, education and due process rights.
McGhee said she is concerned the three-day suspension could create issues when Christian applies to colleges next year.
“This label that was so unfairly placed on his record is going to hinder him,” she told NewsNation.

“ILLEGAL ALIEN” is an accurate term of art in the law.
“Illegal alien” is a normal term used in the English language. If you can’t handle it, learn to speak Mexican.

What you say is true but why should the student have to worry about this at all. The suspension should be expunged, the responsible authority reprimanded in writing, and a letter of apology issued to the student.
The east coast schools are getting a goofy as the west coast schools are logic will not be tolerated utopia classes only.
Here in Los Angeles one would be stunned to hear a high school students logic.
Illegal aliens come from a lot of countries, including English-speaking ones.
Although union educrats are always playing with house-money (ie taxpayers) so they couldn’t care less: in this case - I hope the kid wins $$ millions

I remember when the proper term was “WETBACK.”
You’re supposed to use the term “newcomers”, and you’re not supposed to notice the switch-up.

“Wet backs” is another good term.
Hispanics call them “Mojados” which is the same as “Wet back” in spanish.

Problem is transcripts rarely tell the whole story. They likely only see “served 3-day suspension for hate speech”.
Thanks to the inept Department of Education our school students now have almost no chance of competing on the world’s stage except for their ability to use the proper pronouns when addressing someone and naming all 84 genders.
