Ukraine is legislating to join Russia in sending recruiters into the nation’s prisons to bolster its military, as Moscow’s invasion grinds on and the casualty list grows ever longer.
Ukraine’s Parliament has passed a draft law allowing certain classes of convicts to get out of jail early in return for military service. As noted, Ukraine’s ability to field enough soldiers to sustain the war against Russia is one of the nation’s greatest longer-term challenges of the war, its population considerably smaller than Russia’s and already disturbed and scattered by the conflict.
Releasing criminals from prison in return for military service is by no means unique to the Ukraine war, and has a history going back centuries, whether as a means of redemption in a time of national need or else simply as punishment battalions. Tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of soldiers have already died in the invasion.

I was thinking the United States in the 1950’s and 1960’s when the vast majority of the military were criminals who dodged going to prison to join the military. Instead of being what they were, criminal, they got a paycheck. Dumb program. Judge told them all prison or military.
Fine. You shamed me into reading the article. I broke with tradition. There’s too many green circles that say “CONTINUE” which I unwarily clicked on. They’re just ads and commercials. I knew there was a reason I don’t read articles. Pop-ups and clickbait ads. I’ll stick to the headlines from here on out.
Just one more spring “offensive,” using conscripted Ukrainian prisoners, should do the trick. Ukraine is still on the “road to victory” as long as they can keep drafting cripples, children and misfits.

In the U.S. and elsewhere DEI is being taught at every level including the concept that women make excellent front-line combat troops. It is said there is no biological difference, women can carry the same combat load as men, and that women are just as eager to fight as men.
Is this being proven on the field? What are the actual percentage of women fighters, volunteer or drafted? Are the results of women fighting infantry battles as good as has been expected?
When is the new Ukraine offensive? Time for a “Dirty Dozen” remake?
