Californians are fleeing to a rich southern enclave. Locals aren’t happy.

Every year, former Republican congressional candidate Paul Chabot hosts a welcoming ceremony at a barn in North Texas that draws hundreds of people.

There, barbecue vendors, military recruiters and line dance instructors indoctrinate their new neighbors, teaching them about their new home and the Southern lifestyle. After the festivities, the county sheriff hands them a red, white and blue certificate declaring them honorary Texas citizens. When these families sign their names and recite their oaths, they must not only “swear loyalty” to the Lone Star State, but profess that “there is no finer, greater or better place on the planet.”

For Conservative Move — Chabot’s company dedicated to “helping patriots escape liberal states” — this is all part of the plan to relocate Orange County residents to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, a sprawling region in North Texas that’s home to more than 8 million people. Real estate agents in the area told SFGATE that two cities in particular, though, have attracted a number of self-described “political refugees” who fled liberal California during the height of the pandemic.

Since their arrival, home prices in the area have nearly doubled, and agents said that despite local pushback, so many Californians are moving to the region that they’re creating a new subculture entirely.

Californians are moving to ‘New Texas’ in droves

Frisco and Plano, two wealthy enclaves in Collin County, have become hot spots for coastal Californians. In 2019, the median sale price of a single-family home in Frisco was just $400,000, but it’s since risen to about $700,000 as of March 2024, Redfin data shows — a 75% increase. Most people who recently searched for Frisco-area homes on the platform hail from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New York.

As long as these are mostly conservatives who will vote accordingly, I see this is as a good thing. Sadly, California is a lost cause for conservatives while Texas is in a dogfight as an increasingly purple state.

The purple is ballot fraud.

The Frisco/Plano area is huge.

And still growing. So much flat empty land all around.

I worry about the transformation of Texas. Though a greater threat might be the 5 children family of Hispanics in Texas.

Well as long as it drives up the price of my house so I can sell it in a few years at a nice profit and get the hell out of here.

And . . . there is insufficient water to supply these rapidly growing areas. They are jealously eyeing Oklahoma water rather than dealing with their own supply and demand issues.

You will need the profit if you plan to come to Florida.

Pretty soon it’s going to be one giant Googleplex all the way from Oklahoma City to San Antonio, and Houston.

True that. Although many are predicting the Florida Real Estate market is in for an epic collapse.

And half of India is already here.

Unrestrained growth, massive populations and wealth is no guarantee of anything.

Just look how it totally destroyed S. CA.

“True that. Although many are predicting the Florida Real Estate market is in for an epic collapse.”

I sold my Cypress TX home and bought Tampa Bay home in 2014.

Florida Real Estate Forecast for Next 5 Years
Florida home values have risen by about 80% over the past 5 years and a positive trend is forecasted for the next 5 years. With the recent spike in mortgage payments as a result of rising interest rates, analysts are watching the Florida housing market closely to see what effect this will have. It is likely to restrict house price increases, but to what amount is unclear because there is still a “fear of losing out” attitude among purchasers, which is fueling the market, although slowly.

It’s no surprise that Zillow ranked Tampa, Florida, as the top real estate market in the United States in 2022. Florida housing prices have witnessed some of the most dramatic increases in the country, with Miami and Tampa at the forefront of the upswing. Due to a variety of variables, the housing market in Tampa has outpaced many others, including a large number of potential buyers, a scarcity of supply, strong property sales, and an active employment market in the area.

Overall, the Florida housing market is strong and is predicted to remain so in the next five years.

"As long as these are mostly conservatives who will vote accordingly, I see this is as a good thing."

They aren't.

Demographics and election results for Plano, TX

Demographics and election results for Frisco, TX

As you can see from the data at the links, the demographics have deteriorated in both places, and the election results along with them (funny how that goes together).

What's happening in these 2 cities is happening on the same scale in all of Collin County and Denton County in the Metroplex, and is happening as well in the suburban portions of the other major metro areas in Texas. Maybe not EVERYWHERE. Not yet. (Montgomery County in the suburban Houston area is still pretty nice.)

Texas, politically and demographically, is like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dike. They'll try to hold out for as long as possible, but the inevitable is definitely going to happen. And when it does, go try to find a viable "path to 270" for a GOP presidential candidate.

Texas, as big as it is, has exactly one natural lake. All reservoirs but Caddo are man-made.
