The Peruvian government has officially classified transgender, nonbinary and intersex people as “mentally ill.”
The controversial decision was made to ensure the country’s public health services could “guarantee full coverage of medical attention for mental health” for the trans community, the Peruvian health ministry explained, according to the Telegraph.
The decree will supposedly alter the language in the Essentials Health Insurance Plan to reflect that trans and intersex people have a mental disorder, LGBTQ+ outlet Pink News reported.
Despite the change, trans and other LGBTQ+ people will not be forced to undergo conversion therapies, the health ministry insisted in a statement issued on Friday, the outlet reported.

I might be mistaken but I thought “intersex” was the new term for “hermaphrodite”? That is, having both genitals. That’s not really a “mental issue”.

It’s not rocket science.
All identity dysphoria problems are mental health problems, from anorexia, to folks thet believe their arm or their leg is “not theirs”, to “gender” dyshoria, and to me, even worse the socalled “non-binaries” and the “furries”. These are all errant obsesions that have taken hold in the mind and operate like the strongest addictions, convincing the person with two wrong-minded ideas - they MUST cave in to the obsesion and they cannot break it. The later two ideas are why so many, and so many parents seek the “easy way”, because the right way will be a struggle, mentally and emotionally, for the bearer of the dysphoria and their parents. However, we do not treat addictions with the belief that the best thing to do is to satisfy the addiction.

There are three sexes: Male, Female, and Intersex.
Intersex are people with both both male and female sex characteristics. Typically they self-assign themselves based on the predominant sex.
It’s uncommon, but if you’re talking about 8 billion people in the world, there’s tens of millions of them.
