President Joe Biden’s campaign demanded a ban on audiences during the proposed presidential debates with former President Donald Trump.
The demand appears to be designed to reduce the risk of any Biden protestors attending the event. Anti-Israel protestors often appear at Biden’s public events.
In a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates, the Biden campaign said it was providing notice that it would not participate in commission debates. The campaign said Biden would only participate in network debates.
The Trump campaign has yet to sign off on Biden’s proposal.
“The Commission’s model of building huge spectacles with large audiences at great expense simply isn’t necessary or conducive to good debates,” the Biden campaign wrote:
The debates should be conducted for the benefit of the American voters, watching on television and at home – not as entertainment for an in-person audience with raucous or disruptive partisans and donors, who consume valuable debate time with noisy spectacles of approval or jeering.
As was the case with the original televised debates in 1960, a television studio with just the candidates and moderators is a better, more cost-effective way to proceed: focused solely on the interests of voters.

The deep state demanded ridiculous terms expecting PDJT to reject the offer, with only a sideways beleif that if he did accept, the rules would allow them to manipulate the debate.
PDJT accepted and now they’re sh*tting their pants.
It might be proper. A room full of partisan hacks. It’s not like watching a qb throw the ball before the receiver makes his break. You can see it all on the tv. It’s good enough.
Is he familiar with crowds chanting “Timisoara! Timisoara!”?
Because it's a distraction to Biden. It will break his concentration, which is already on shaky ground.

I agree with Biden. I find the cheering and booing of the audience annoying when I’m watching it on TV, and if CNN is running the debate, the audience will likely be pro-Biden.
If I remember correctly, the debates in 1960, 1976 and 1980 were not held before live audiences.
Seems cheesy, and less than honest. Sure, protestors might show up and make a scene. Fine. Take a break, eject all of them, then resume. I don’t think Biden’s up to a real debate, and will be ‘distracted’ by any audience.
I would like to see them held in a classic debate format.
With truly neutral moderators!!!
People with dementia have problems when they are in the presence of large crowds. I wonder if that is part of the reason for this demand.
