Lavrov refers to Putin as Xi’s ‘donkey’ in China visit, exposing Russia’s dependency

In an unexpected moment, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov referred to his leader, Vladimir Putin, as Chinese President Xi Jinping's "donkey" and admitted that nothing now depends on Moscow.

He made the eyebrow-raising comment in response to a question from a Russian propagandist about an informal meeting planned after the official talks during Putin’s visit to Beijing.

“You know, as they say in the East, the guest is the master's donkey. Therefore, of course, all programs depend on the kind offers that the Chinese president and his team have made to our president,” Lavrov explained, offering a glimpse into the true nature of the relationship between the two countries. It appears China holds the dominant position, while Moscow finds itself increasingly dependent, almost like a loyal companion following its master.

My read is a translation error, purposeful or otherwise.

Oil is everything. China’s production is about 4 million bpd and consumption approaching 15 million bpd.

Russia fills the gap. They certainly know it, and natgas is elevating to equal stature with oil, and China’s natgas production is 222 billion cubic meters/year, while consuming 376 billion cubic meters. That gap also filled by Russia, the world’s overwhelming leader in natgas reserves.

Some sort of translation issue.

So let’s assume this neocon fantasy is true - how smart was it then for DC neocons to make Russia the primary enemy, wage economic war on them, sacrifice Ukraine, and blow through western weapon stocks to fight Russia?

the chumps in DC are just playing into China’s hands.

Yahoo News. I believe this is a misrepresentation of Lavrov’s actual remark.

Take an anecdote and run with it for a sensationalized story. Surely, foreign dignitaries dictate the host countries’ schedule for their visit, right?

Thank goodness Ukraine is independent and completely free of any niggling little support ties.

“Yahoo News. I believe this is a misrepresentation of Lavrov’s actual remark.”

I agree with your skepticism of Yahoo News. But in this case a Belorussian source confirms the comment:

https://charter97.org/en/news/2024/5/17/595375/

“Lavrov suddenly spoke honestly and called Putin “Xi Jinping’s donkey.” At the very least, he will be castrated. And the old fool won’t reach a decent veterinary clinic.

Most likely, the procedure will be carried out on the plane on the way back to Moscow. The entire Putin retinue, flight attendants and FSO will take part in cutting off the minister’s eggs.

The testicles will be thrown into the taiga. Let us note that Lavrov, calling Putin “Xi Jinping’s donkey,” revealed absolutely the entire ins and outs of Russian-Chinese relations.

This sweet eastern saying is not just “oriental”, but Mongolian, applied to those who were invited out of favor and “should know their place.” “

Well, the U.S. Donkey Party is no different than Putin in many aspects. Perhaps that is what Lavrov was alluding to.

Why do you support Chicoms?

You often if not most times seem rational and reasonable and knowledgeable on many things.

But you always seem to return to Chicom support.

well, that is all well & good, but why are none of the other major outlets reporting this damning statement about Putin. I would think they would all be on this claim like white on rice by now:

It’s true, but I don’t think that’s what Lavrov meant.

“ ifinnegan is back again with his “Chicoms” song. sing it brother!”

I notice you don’t answer and use the old time leftist anti-anti-communist saw. It’s loony to be anti-communist, the old trope. Fluoridated water and all that.

Why do you avoid the subject and focus on superficial things?

Why do you support 共产党?

How’s that? Does that give the Chicoms proper respect you think they deserve, using their actual name?
