Does anyone wonder where the Harry Potter train is going?

Now that so many parents and children are on the Potter train, does anyone wonder where it's going?
After all, it is a book about children attending a school for witches and wizards. In book four we see a character mutilating himself, cutting off his arm, in order to render a spell efficacious. And the author has promised that the final three books will become increasingly darker.

Are any of the Potter fans out there concerned about this? Although it's probably a moot point because so many children are already hooked.

I heard he's going to go double-diamond with Amway but finds his upline is really Satan.

When wrestling--tatoos--piercing went high culture...I knew we were headed for trouble!

I know a lot of people who very carefully read the books first and then edit them slightly for their youngest children. It's not that hard.
Yeah, they'll get darker. It's fine with me. The author has promised certain things -we'll never have trouble telling good from evil, and the main characters will never be truly 'tempted' by evil.
Anyway, if you're worried, keep them away from your kids. I'm fine with them, and so's my family. Why are you so paranoid, anyway? Are you really afraid that kids are going to turn to evil? If so, maybe you should volunteer with troubled teens and give them a good role model.

Does anyone wonder where the Harry Potter train is going?Let me save everyone a lot of trouble:
Straight to Hell!

With any luck, maybe I can catch a ride in its wake and get a fantasy novel published, myself -- and sneak a few right-wing individualist and individual responsibility messages through in the process.

Why, just the other day I had to chase some little wizards off of the corner.

From the response around here, most of the parents don't give a damn. They'd rather keep their children happy, than in good moral standing. Because of course it's easier to say YES to a child than NO. With the exception of myself and a few other parents on FR, most of the parents employ child rearing tactics espoused by the left, just because it's convenient. I'll probably get flamed for that, but oh well.

If your child is so stupid as to think that severing an arm is the solution to any problem (well, except for a bad case of gangrene) then you've got problems that no mere prescreening of his/her reading material is going to solve.

What truly concerns me is the effect this will have on Tolkien. While Potter's underlying tenets might be question, Tolkien's never were, but the big brush of stereotyping is going to hit the LOTR

Now that so many parents and children are on the Potter train, does anyone wonder where it's going? Well actually it's the Hogwart's Express and it's going from Platform 9 3/4 to Hogwarts...
That aside, to answer your question, in a word, no.

Or maybe most parents are able to explain to their children the difference between fantasy and reality, a distinction that many here have demonstrated an inability to grasp.

Now that so many parents and children are on the Potter train, does anyone wonder where it's going? Straight to the Anne Rice section when they get older.
Did anyone notice that in the movie, the main characters say: "Happy Christmas" instead of the good old American "Merry Christmas". It's as though the brit witches wish you to be happy for Christ's Mass, rather than merely merry, or even merrily merry. It sounds like a Satanic plot to me.
Happy, indeed... Bah, Humbug!

See above article for a good discrimination between Rowling and Tolkien et al
"...The freedom with which Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, George MacDonald, and G. K. Chesterton baptized myth and magic in works of Christ-centered, "sanctified imagination" may appear unwise and even shocking to Christian readers in today's syncretistic climate. Nonetheless, that freedom was directly proportional to the strength of their commitment to an orthodox Christian worldview and their passion for the preeminence of Christ, the Everlasting Man who was God's answer to both demons and philosophers. Without such a severely limiting framework, "the old religion" of natural magic follows a predictable expansion and devolution into darker and more unnatural forms...."

I'll probably get flamed for that, but oh well. You won't get flamed for having your views of parenting. But you should get flamed for the implication that those of us who allow our children to read/view Harry Potter are employing the "child rearing tactics of the left."
Do you teach "Jumping to Conclusions" as a fitness class?
