Bill Simon's just been welcomed. Introducing Bill Jones now. Reardon's not there.

Roger's starts with Simon, "Why should voters vote for Simon?" SIMON: Problem solver, builder, trackrecord... businesses track record. Attacking "career politicians" like Davis, talking about high taxes, budget deficit. Proud to be a conservative republican. Pledges not to raise taxes. Education important, schools ranked near last. High electricity rate. Worst traffic. Water crisis.

Talks about mob prosecution, about building "PAX TV", volunteering. Says career politicians didn't plan to fail... failed to plan...

Jones' turn, why vote for Jones? Talks about getting 3 strikes past, father, grandfather, farmer/rancher 3rd generation. Davis hasn't led. Says two things important 1. who's best to beat davis 2. who's best qualified to lead CA. Says he's been called "straight shooter" by press, people ready for straight talk. Says he can win against Davis. Again 3-strikes, crime reduction. He has won twice state-wide, building coalitions "Conservative Women's Coalition", Latino group endorsement. Balanced budget, commits not to raise taxes. Points out Reardon isn't there. Attacks Reardon for being "unclear". Claims Reardon opposed Prop 22 as "devisive", supporters as "discriminatory" while having claimed he believes marriage between man/woman. Condemns Eron, said there hadn't been a contribution to him from Eron, newspaper says otherwise. Reardon's contributions to Davis. Reardon would support moratorium on death penalty and waffles on other positions.

TAKING BREAK for traffic.

Going down the six statewide props coming in March to get the candidates views.

Prop 40 Bond issue, clean water, etc. Jones: NO. Not the resources for other things, monies already passed. Simon: Agrees. Talks about differed maintainance, wants better long term plans not piece meal.

41 Voting update: Jones (wrote this): In favor. Simon: "Ok with it." Says we need to be careful with the budget, doesn't seem all that concerned with modernizing voting right now.

42 Gas sales tax for transportation: Jones: Yes, can't afford to not work on roads. Simon: Measure important, supports. This is where the money goes already. Essential.

43 Right to have vote counted: JOnes says not necessary but supports it. Simon agrees.

44 Auto insurance fraud: Simon supports, says anything to crack down on fraud is good, reduce insurance costs. Jones: agrees.

45 Incumbents gather signatures to bypass term limits. Jones: Opposes, saved term limits in court. Simon: agrees, weakens term limits. Says the will of the people already decided this.

NEWS BREAK.

Bill Jones' and Bill Simon's opinions on the propositions appearing on the March 5th, 2002 ballot. They seem to agree generally on these propositions:
## J S
40 n n -- bond for clean water/air/environment
41 y y?
42 y y -- gasoline taxes used for transportation
43 y y -- guarantee that voters vote is counted
44 y y -- insurance fraud
45 n n-- extend state legislature term limits by up to 4 years
(to be continued...)
