Last week's piece, College Girls: Unpaid Whores, elicited more feedback than any other article I have penned since my September 19th column on the 911 attacks. The responses have taken one of three forms:
"Joe, I loved your column. It was one of the best you have ever written. Keep up the fight on the culture war! You're brilliant!"
"Come on. Nothing has really changed in young people's sexual behavior over the years. You're overreacting. Find something better to write about."
"You're such an a^^hole. You're going to be a f^^^ing virgin forever."
To the first class of readers, thank you. You are right; I am brilliant and have no fear, I will always be on the front lines of the culture war.
Those in the second group are simply misinformed. Not only has sexual activity become more prevalent, but the brazen way in which college kids proclaim their immorality from the mountaintops is breathtaking. Girls publicly discuss their sexual conquests while walking around on campus, their faces beaming with pride. Many sororities turn into burlesque houses on the weekend. Girls are no longer worried about getting a reputation for being loose. Rather, they are too busy competing for the title of Sassiest Trollop.
The greatest beneficiary of the female sexual revolution has been the male libido. Traditionally, the rules of the sex game have had men playing offense and women playing defense. Now, everyone is playing offense and no one is playing goalie.
The third class of respondents originated from students forwarding my article to various Leftist campus listservs. In an unusual turn of events, my piece ended up on a listserv for a socialist organization called "Cornell Students For Labor Action," known as COLA (I once tried to start a rival organization called Students for Private Initiative and Tax Efficiency, SPRITE).
Anyway, I could not understand why a cultural article on the moral breakdown of women was appearing on a pro-labor mailing list
and then it hit me. COLA was upset that the whores were unpaid. Rallies for a "whore living wage" are likely right around the corner.
Well, that's a horse-whipping offence. You should know better than to stiff a whore. ;^)
Too wordy.
I found getting laid by dating to be very, very expensive (dinner, movies, things, etc). I had calculated that a hooker would have been much cheaper.
Oh well.
Bump to Cornell Review, the sane voice in the city of Evil.
I think we do.
This is a followup to the original story, linked above. A quote from that story may put things into a better context: 'But true love can only be understood in the context of the Word of God. Any other notion of love is secular and, by definition, limited and finite.'
I agree. But I'll bet he isn't getting much lately.
