Controlling energy prices, meeting demand are the grid operator's key goals.
WASHINGTON -- The operator of California's power grid on Wednesday asked federal regulators for new authority to control runaway electricity pricing and ensure that there will be enough power to meet demand.

A whole 2000 megawatts of surplus capacity? I've seen a warm day in CA eat that much capacity in 30 minutes. The very mild weather over the past few months has given CA a break from the crisis of limited supply. CA anticipates a peak load around 29000 MW today with 35000 available. I've observed hot summer days with the load as high as 54,000 MW. That's a 20000 MW deficit. It could be an interesting summer.
